Interesting Conferences and Training Opportunities

Through a generous grant for an evaluation of our online initiative, the New England Adolescent Research Institute (NEARI) is offering a limited number of slots to register for free online courses.  These courses are excellent opportunities to learn about the assessment, treatment and management of children and youth with sexual behavior problems.

At this time we have two courses open (with continuing education credits) until the end of June.  Each course takes 3-4 hours and you can take them at any time and anywhere that there is internet access.  You can take a look at the course overview  and sample through the links below. 
We highly recommend that you choose one or both of these courses and follow the registration information listed below. 
 
Understanding Children's Sexual Behaviors - From Natural and Healthy to Disturbed (4 CEUs)
Instructor: Toni Cavanagh Johnson, Ph.D.


Dr. Johnson is a licensed clinical psychologist, author, and internationally recognized researcher and trainer in the field of child sexual abuse. Her essential course helps people working with children understand what are the expected behaviors related to sex and sexuality in young children and how to distinguish them from behaviors that are of concern and require some intervention.

Stopping Sexual Abuse Through Intervention with Sexually Abusive Youth (4 CEUs)
Instructor: Steven M. Bengis, Ed.D., L.C.S.W.


This introductory online course covers how best to identify and intervene with youth who exhibit sexually abusive behaviorso prevent them from hurting any other victims. Take this course if you want an overview of how sex-abuse-specific assessment, case management and treatment can help give a teenager the opportunity to live an abuse-free life.

Before you register, please look at the attached consent form.  This form provides reassurance that your information will not be given to any vendor and information about the research examining the usefulness of online education on this topic. 
 

 
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, HERE IS HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE COURSE:
 
1.  Go to the NEARI website at http://www.neari.com/trainingcenter/ and select "Click here for more information and to register."

2.  Click on the title of the course you have chosen.

3.  If you want CE credits, select the "CEU Type", and then click on "Register for Course."  If you do NOT want CE credits, just click on "Register for Course" and then "OK" in the pop-up window.

4.  Proceed through the registration process for NEW STUDENT. 
 
  • You must complete all sections marked with a red *.
  • You may select any username and password.
5.  To be sure that your course is FREE:
 
  • When asked about your Organization, please be sure to select: Open Source
  • When asked about your Payment Method, select "Organization Code" then enter the following Organization Code: 163sna6.
6.  When you have completed your registration, you may immediately enter the course.  You have 30 days to complete the course.  If you have any problems, please contact NEARI or the technical assistance number listed within the course.
